This is a very old city, its history goes back thousands of years to the third millennium before BC. 

The term "shuk" translates into "market". The city has a traditional mid eastern market. 
At the foot of the old city, next to the river  is an old well  that has come to be called Abraham's Well. "Be'er" in Hebrew means "well," thus the city's name, which is mentioned in the Bible. Ben Gurion University of the Negev. The University of the Negev was established on 1965. Later on when the former prime minister, David Ben-Gurion died, its name was changed and called Ben-Gurion University of the Negev
